Sometimes you will need to get a camera track on a 2d shot to add 3d elements to it. C4D has a user-friendly tracker that provides a camera for other programs, such as Houdini. Here are the steps for that workflow
- Export the original 2d video as a jpeg sequence from AE
- In AE create a C4D maxon layer
- this will prompt you to save a c4d file somewhere
- Open up that C4D file and change the project settings to match the AE sequence (ex: 24fps)
- Create a motion tracker object in C4D
- Add jpeg sequence to motion tracker
- Run the 2d track
- If the 2d track isn’t working, delete some of the tracking points that are causing issues
- Run the 3d camera track
- Drop a null/cube/figure object to help identify scale and where the camera is when exported
- This also confirms if the camera track is moving correctly
- Export as an FBX into any other DCC
